Well now…. The anticipation for this year’s centenary TT really got me going as I was at last going to visit the Island for the first time since my friend Joakim Karlsson lost his life on the first night of the 2005 TT practice week.

On arrival, my first conversation was a phone call I received from Shaun Harris giving me directions to his spot in the paddock. I eventually met up with Shaun for the first time and can only describe him as one of life’s and road racings, real top men. I spent too little time with him that I never even got to mention that he would actually be in the running for the TT Iceman Trophy award himself…it never even occurred to me until after his accident.

Shaun’s accident took so much of the enjoyment of the TT away from me that I wanted to just return home. When I found out he was stable and fighting back, I stayed and was glad I did.

The reason I mention Shaun Harris is because he epitomises exactly why I set up the series of Iceman Trophies in memory of Joakim. He travelled far, scraping and fighting to get here to compete and test his skills against his rivals, come what may. Just like Fabrice Miguet, Christer Miinin (Joakim’s friend), Stefano Bonetti, Wade Boyd, who I also had the great pleasure of meeting, and all the other foreign competitors who make the long journey to the TT, NW200 and the UGP to test their abilities, better themselves as racers and generally enjoy the camaraderie that is Real Road Racing. They are all hero’s and winners in my book.

Well last year saw the TT Iceman Trophy go across the pond to the USA in the hands of Jeremy Toye. Jeremy never appearedthis year but two of his countrymen turned up and what a show they produced!

Mark Miller and Jimmy Moore produced displays
that had everyone talking about them.

I can honestly say that for the first time, the Iceman Trophy winner was a close call. Mark had a terrific result (26 th) in the first Superbike racefinishing 6 places above Jimmy with only 1mph separating them on lap speeds.

The Superstock results were equally close with Mark 24 th and Jimmy 25 th with only a minute separating
them. Their lap speeds were identical also.

All credit must go to Mark for his 17 th place in the Senior TT with Jimmy running out of fuel on the last lap. However, I took all these results into account along with the fact that Mark had competed at the TT last year and this year was Jimmy’s first time at the TT races.

For me the deciding factor was that Jimmy managed a spectacular 15 th place in the 600 Supersports race, winning a silver replica and lapping at 118.550 mph!!!

I had never met Jimmy before and had great pleasure in surprising him with the news that he came out tops this year.

Ian Lougher , Jimmy’s team mate, mentor and TT great himself, presented Jimmy with this year’s Centenary TT Iceman Trophy, a cheque for £600.00 and for the first time ever, an Iceman Trophy replica for him to keep. Jimmy knew that his friend Jeremy Toye was the first ever TT Iceman Trophy winner but was determined to get one over on his friend by showing off his replica to Jeremy as soon as he gets home as Jimmy is the first ever recipient of thataddition to the Trophy.

A great performance from a nice and humble man.
