News 8th August 2005 - Press Release The Iceman Trophy

The Iceman Trophy was initiated after Joakim Karlsson, a Swedish road racer, tragically lost his life on the 30th March 2005 whilst competing in the Isle of Man TT roadraces.
There are a series of three Trophies, named after Joakim ‘The Iceman’ and will be presented in his memory to the Best Performance by an Overseas Rider (non UK/Irish Race Licence Holder) at the three main International Road Race events: The Northwest 200, The TT and the Ulster Grand Prix.
The first ever Trophy will be awarded at this years UGP and will carry a cash award of £1,000 and will be based on the riders performance/results during the course of the race meeting on Saturday.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people who have contributed to the realisation of this personal dream by their generosity and respect for the man who came from Sweden and left his mark so many people in his travels.
My personal thanks go to this years prize fund sponsors: Des Moore (DMRR/Honda Racing) - Colin Moore (FC Moore Decorators) – Noel Johnston (Nibbles Catering) – Allan Frew (Annandale Design) and last but certainly not least John O’Neill (John O’Neill Racing)
Others I would like to thank are the Dundrod Club in addition to the Realroadracing.com website, Leslie Moore, Wallace and Gillian Rollins (Road Racing Ireland magazine), Paul Lindsay (Irish Racer magazine) Brian Farrell (Tuttiwebs website creations) Willis Marshall (press assistance), Graeme McCusker, Stuart Castles, Sharon McCahon, Eric Lyons (Ironside Trophies) and Kimmo Kononen (Joakims Mechanic) all who have contributed in some way to making this series of Trophies a reality which I hope will continue for many years to come, in memory and dedication to the Iceman, Joakim Karlsson.
