News 4th August 2006 - 2006 Ulster Grand Prix - Iceman Trophy

The Iceman Trophy is a trilogy of Trophies in memory of Swedish rider Joakim Karlsson who travelled many miles to compete against his heroes at the 3 major International Road Races, UGP, NW200 and at the TT Races where he sadly lost his life in May 2005.

The awards are for the: ‘Best Performance by an Overseas Rider – Non UK/Irish race licence holder’. at these International events.

As these three road races are International, I personally think it appropriate that the performance by foreign riders is recognised and rewarded. I think it is important to support the continuation of this trilogy of trophies for this very reason. The sponsors of these trophies agree and I applaud their commitment to this end. Cameron Donald, the Australian road racer who is currently making his mark with unprecedented performances in 2006, was the first ever winner of the UGP Iceman Trophy last year. Registered as an Irish rider for this year excludes Cameron from this year’s Trophy but what an example of what an individual can achieve at this sport…. A proven worthy winner of the first ever Iceman Trophy.

This year’s award carries the prize fund of £1,000.00 kindly donated by the following UGP Iceman sponsors: John O’Neill (John O’Neill Racing) – Allan Frew (Annandale Design) – Noel Johnston (Nibbles Catering)– Colin Moore (FC Moore Decorators) – Gerard McKay - (GK Joinery).
